Classes
Learn to throw on the wheel hand-build or sculpt clay:
centering, opening, pulling, trimming, assembling. Sculpt and learn to build
with slabs and coils. Learn glaze application and kiln loading, and participate in a raku or a charcoal firing!
2008 Spring Class Schedule:
Introduction to Wheel-Throwing w/Logan Wannamaker ::Tuesdays 6-9 PM & Wednesdays 9-12
A class for anyone who has or wants to learn to throw on the wheel. Basic and intermediate throwing skills covered as well as individual projects and weekly demonstrations.
Handbuilt Forms :: call for details
This class will cover many different types of handbuilding projects, functional and non-functional. Students will use molds, slabrollers, and learn to make their own templates. This class will focus on decorative techniques.
Continuing & Intermediate Wheel Throwing : Mondays 6-9 PM w/ Logan Wannamaker
Feel comforatable with your skills on the wheel and want to take it to the next level. Learn how to maqke teapots, large round forms, find personal expression in the clay and make a variety of other altered vessels on the wheel.
Figurative & Abstract Sculpture w/Mellisa Moe :: Fridays 1-4 PM
Create human poses and forms from a live model. Learn several different sculpting techniques to enhance gesture, and movement. Use clay as a medium to explore objects and space. Class begins first week of February Model fee extra.
Raku, Charcoal, & Saggar Firing w/ Logan Wannamaker :: Wednsdays 1-4 PM
A class for anyone interested in alternative types of firng techniques. We will fire in several different atmospheres and be creating forms to be enhanced by the firing process. Pyro maniacs welcome!!
Short Intensive Classes
Advanced Throwing Techniques :: TBD w/Logan Wannamaker & John Bradford
This class will be a free form class focused on throwing big pots, loose pots, altered vessels, muli part vessels, and integrated slip and decorative techniques.
Firing & Mixing Glazes :: TBD w/Logan Wannamaker
Learn how to fire a gas and electric kiln as well as learn about oxidation and reduction. Mix your own glazes and learn about the all the properties of the minerals that compose a glaze.
Spanoramics :: TBD w/Logan Wannamaker
Make pots and brush up on your Spanish. This class is a great way to learn spanish, practice, converse and have fun creating. No english allowed.
2008 Kids Summer Workshops Coming Soon
Learn to throw on the wheel, make whistles, birdhouses, masks, and and make an array of colorful objects for the cupboard at home. :: Tuesdays 4:00-5:30PM $20 session or $60 Month
Please register ASAP in order for the classes to run. All classes begin the third week of of April.
All 7 week classes are $195.00. This includes three hours of instruction per week, 24-hour access to a communal studio, and 25lbs of clay.
The short Intensive classes will meet twice a week for 3 hours and will last 2 weeks, they cost $135 and include 25lbs of clay as well. Registration is based upon a first-come, first-serve basis and classes are limited to 8 students. Classes will fill fast so please stop by or call Taos Clay to register.
