Maria’s current work focuses on handbuilding processes and forming clay, using minimal tools, to understand more about the hand’s relationship to material. With her concentration on particularly slow processes, Maria dedicates her time entirely to the piece in progress. Maria’s favorite clay building methods are coil, pinch, and slabs. Enjoying her work is very important and she hopes it is communicated to you through the use of her ceramics. Maria’s work is often about the importance of the journey as well as the destination.
In 2013, Maria earned her BFA from Bowling Green State University, in her hometown of Bowling Green, Ohio. In May 2017, she received her MFA from Syracuse University in Ceramic Arts. She is currently working as an Artist-in-Residence at Taos Clay Studio.
